Osho's Life History

Year 1931 – 1953

Osho came to this planet in 11 December 1931. He was the eldest child of his parents and belongs to the Jain religion.His father name was Babulal Jain and mother was Saraswati Jain. Osho spent his first seven years of life with his maternal grandparents where Osho was absolutely free for doing anything. Osho was significantly influenced by his grandfather’s death, and again by the death of his childhood girlfriend and cousin Shashi from typhoid when he was 15, prompting a distraction with death that kept going all through quite a bit of his childhood and youth. After the death of his grandparent He went to Gadarwara to live with his parents.

Osho was an absolute intellectual and rebellious student at the school time. He was the gifted student and got the position of daunting debater. Osho was quickly connected with socialism and two Indian Nationalist organizations first was the Indian National Army and another the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh but he was not participated in this so longer.

Osho was impacted by Gautama Buddha, Jiddu Krishnamurti, George Gurdjieff, Laozi, Bodhidharma, Kabir, Mahavira.

Osho was Enlightened when he was only 21 year old.

Year 1951-1970

Osho was started his public speaking with Sarva Dharma Sammelan which is organized by Taranpanthi Jain Group at Jabalpur from 1951 to 1968.

Osho started his studies at Hitkarini College, Jabalpur but due to some conflicts he left that college and transferred to D. N. Jain College of Jabalpur, where he was completing B. A. in 1955 and took admission to Sagar University, completed his M.A. with First Class Honors in Philosophy in 1957 after that he was selected for teaching post in Raipur Sanskrit College. He worked as lecturer of Philosophy at Jabalpur University in 1958 and promoted to professor in 1960.

Osho became very famous with name Acharya Rajneesh.

In 1962, Osho started 3- 10 days meditation programs in the countryside which is known as the Life Awakening Movement. After a controversial speaking tour in 1966, Osho resigned from his teaching post.
In 1968 Osho in known for anti religion speeches. Osho said that Religion is an art that shows how to enjoy life. In 1969 Osho got the name “Sex Guru” By Indian Press.

Year 1970- 1981

In 1970 Osho represented dynamic meditation method for the first time in public. Osho left Jabalpur and shifted to Mumbai where he started his first group of disciples which is known as “Neo Sannyasins”. his sannyasins were encouraged to follow a celebratory rather than ascetic lifestyle.

In 1971 osho got the title of “Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh”.

Osho moved to Pune from Mumbai because of humid climate of Mumbai where he suffered from diabetes, asthma and many allergies. Osho spoke at the pune ashram from 1974 to 1981. Osho’s pune ashram is currently known as the Osho International Meditation Resort.

Some Western sannyasins were claimed to back increased stays in India through prostitution and medication running.A couple of later alleged that, while Osho was not specifically included, they examined such plans and activites with him in darshan and he gave his blessings.

By 1981 Osho’s ashram hosted 30,000 visitors per year.

Year 1982- 1990

Osho was facing pressure from government authorities and some religious groups. In 1981 Osho fled to the United States with more than 2000 of his disciples and settling on a 100-square-mile farm in focal Oregon, which he named Rancho Rajneesh. Where Rajneesh and his sannyasins started building their own city, which is called Rajnesspuram. Some government official said that it violated the Oregon’s land-use laws, but Rajneesh was victorious in court and continued to expand the commune.

Osho had pulled back from open talking and addressing amid the change, having entered a time of “quiet” that would last until November 1984, and at the cooperative recordings of his talks were played to gatherings of people.

In 1985 Osho return to India from US. He was given a great welcome by his Indian disciples. Osho returned to Bombay, India, on 30 July 1986 after a long journey.

Osho returned to pune ashram in 1987 where he started evening discourses every day. Osho invented new Meditation therapy method which is known as “Mystic Rose” and began to lead meditations in his discourses after a gap of more than ten years.

In 1988, Osho discourses focused exclusively on Zen. He changed the name “Osho Rajneesh” to “Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh” and became famous with the name of Osho.

Osho was suffering from bad health and weaken day by day. He gave his last discourse in 1989

Osho died on 1990 from the heart collapse.Osho’s followers also continue to spread his beliefs from one of the hundreds of Osho Mediation Centers that they have opened in major cities across the globe.
